COST/SQFT is a documentary film project born out of Giorgio's master's thesis at Rice University. In 2010, Giorgio received a travel fellowship to photograph some of the derelict foreclosed McMansions of Inland Empire, CA. In the depths of the housing crisis, with development at a halt, a strange and repetitive pattern began to emerge. Once thriving orange groves would be incinerated. Presumably to be eventually razed to make room for more housing development. But in the absence of cheap money to borrow, this system was at a standstill, producing a curious condition where torched orange groves sat alongside half-built suburban sprawl.
Commodities in limbo.
